HP Operations Manager is a powerful set of systems management tools and contains a vast amount of configuration information.
But this information is not in an easily accessible, user-friendly
format. There is no configuration documentation and errors can occur
because it is difficult to see the relationship between configuration
items. This lack of information transparency severely impacts
productivity and quality.

Why You Need MIDAS
Transparency makes management easier!
Total Transparency
The MIDAS Documentor is web based so that anyone you authorize can view
monitoring information, template detail or even overviews of the
configuration with a standard web browser.
And, since it is read only, there is no danger of a user accidentally or maliciously altering your instrumentation.
The following screenshot shows an example session of MIDAS 2.5 for HP OM Windows.
Via the context icons you can list the related information for that HP OM object, e.g. the parent policy group(s).
The following screenshot shows an example session of MIDAS 3.x for HP OM Unix.
Instead of icons as in MIDAS 2.5 here there is a context related Browse Menu giving you access to
those MIDAS transparency features.
Real Time Documentation
The MIDAS Documentor engine generates documentation as it is requested.
This real time information is invaluable when trouble shooting problems
and eliminates the worry about whether documentation is up-to-date.
The MIDAS Documentor can generate a Document in HTML, PDF and RTF format.
We have even included document layouts in Microsoft Excel® format. This
makes up to date documentation extremely portable. Not only can a user
browse for their own documentation, but you can generate documents
specific to a user or operator’s need and simply email it or
post it in your company’s intranet.
The following screenshot shows for example the different default node documentation types in MIDAS 3.x:

For example, the PDF file generated for an HP OM log file template looks like this:

Seamless Navigation
Since the MIDAS Documentor is web based, you can easily drill down with hyperlinks even to the conditions of a policy /template.
Your users have the ability to browse nodes, node groups, policies and policy groups and much much more.
At any point the user can then simply press a button to generate a document for the item currently being viewed.
Create Your Own Documentation Formats
MIDAS Documentor has many “out of the box” standard
formats for all types of documentation to fit the needs of everyone in
your organization from business managers to HP Operations Manager
operators.
You can easily customize how you present different documents for the different people who will be using them by simply choosing which blocks you want
to appear in any particular document. You customize how much or how
little detail goes into what is delivered in a final document.
Advanced Features Equals More Transparency
Included in our basic Documentor is the ability to make many “negative queries”.
Such as list all nodes not in a node group, nodes or node groups without
assignments, and node groups or message groups not in a responsibility
matrix.
Additionally, our powerful search functions lets you search by keywords
anywhere in your configuration. We have also implemented an intelligent
template comparison which allows you to visually see differences
between two templates, whether conditions still exist, if they have
been moved and what the actual differences in the condition are.
The MIDAS Documentor is available for the following platforms:
- HP OM for UNIX 8.x
- HP OM for Windows 7.x, 8.x
- HP NNM 6.x, 7.x
