HP Operations Manager Configuration Value Pack (CVP) or MIDAS Configurator- What's what and who is who...?
In 2006 HP decided to license blue elephant systems' MIDAS technology and sell it under the HP Operations Manager brand. Technically this means that when it says
Configuration Value Pack on the outside, it is MIDAS Configurator inside and
as a CVP user you can trust in the experiences and high quality standards of BES. There are no technical differences.
Nevertheless there are a few differences. When buying MIDAS Configurator
directly from BES, you will have the following benefits:
- direct support from the manufacturer MIDAS Configurator is "Made in Germany" and so is the BES support. Of course, as a non-European customer, you may contact your closest regional BES office.
- first-hand consulting knowledge if you plan to customize MIDAS, you will not find anybody who knows better how to do this.
-
complementary MIDAS products.
Update Oct 2008: HP will no longer sell Configuration Value Pack (CVP). See this link for details.
BES focuses on IT Management products, particularly HP OM, and offers a set of other extension products which integrate nicely with MIDAS Configurator (admittedly they do this with CVP as well).

BES is using several Open-Source technologies to create MIDAS
Even if MIDAS is a commercial product, BES contributes many experiences,
changes and enhancements back to the Open-Source community. Thus, buying MIDAS possibly makes you feel better by indirectly supporting Open-Source projects as well as small independent manufacturers.
